Malaysia decided to give the mark, Dr. Yusuf Qaradawi, president of the International Union for Muslim Scholars of the Prophet’s Award in 1431 for him, and in recognition of his knowledge and efforts in serving Islam and Muslims, handing it over to his eminence the King of Malaysia in the celebration of the great new year on Friday morning, 1 January 1431 H, corresponding to December 18, 2009.
This honor came to Sheikh Qaradawi, “in recognition of his knowledge and his tender and efforts in serving Islam and Muslims, and the dissemination of Islamic culture, and support of the Islamic faith, and the rationalization of the Islamic awakening, and pre-eminence of Islamic thought and Islamic Sciences, Tenby and the Islamic nation.”
Award of the Prophet’s grand prize awarded to leading figures provided great services to the Islamic nation, which operate at the elevation of Islam at the local level within the State of Malaysia, or at the global level.
He sent the management of Malaysian Prime Minister of Islamic Affairs, Senator Jamil bin Haji Behrom best, a letter on his behalf and on behalf of the Government of Malaysia to Sheikh al-Qaradawi in which he expressed his happiness by choosing eminence public figure to give him the award.

The other awards received by Sheikh State Award for Islamic Studies from the State of Qatar in 2008, received from His Highness Sheikh Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, one month ago.
The Malaysian government launched award of the Prophet’s (annual) year 1408 AH in 1987, and requires the candidate to be Mtbhra and in-depth in the field of science and knowledge which qualifies to contribute to the advancement of the nation and religion and the homeland, and that it had the characteristics of distinct and unique personality, can be a model by example, and have a distinctive contribution to the development of the logo of the Islamic and development and advancement of the nation, and finally to be a prominent figure in society, and recognizing and acceptable to the public.

Anugerah kali kelapan itu disampaikan oleh Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah pada majlis sambutan Maal Hijrah Peringkat Kebangsaan Tahun 1431 di Pusat Konvensyen Antarabangsa Putrajaya di sini hari ini.
Sebagai penerima, Yusuf memperoleh wang tunai sebanyak RM100,000, sebuah plak, pingat dan sijil penghargaan.
Yusuf adalah ulama, pemikir, sarjana dan merupakan golongan intelek kontemporari pada abad ini.
Dalam ucapannya, tokoh ilmuwan kelahiran Mesir itu berkata, beliau menghargai anugerah yang diberikan kepadanya namun apa yang lebih utama ialah kekagumannya terhadap kebangkitan Malaysia sebagai sebuah negara Islam yang menjadi kebanggaan umat di seluruh dunia.
“Hubungan dan perkenalan saya dengan Malaysia bukanlah baru hari ini atau pun semalam, malah ia adalah satu hubungan yang telah bermula sejak setengah kurun yang lalu.
“Saya mempunyai hubungan yang akrab dengan individu, ulama dan institusi di sini,” katanya selepas menerima anugerah berkenaan.
Menurutnya, beliau telah beberapa kali datang ke negara ini atas jemputan universiti dan masjid-masjid serta berjumpa dengan sebilangan guru-guru selain pelajar-pelajar.
“Saya juga telah sampai ke beberapa buah negeri di sini sehingga pernah satu ketika saya dibawa menaiki pewawat tentera bagi memudahkan saya sampai ke negeri yang dilawati dengan lebih cepat.
“Saya juga ada bertemu dengan pihak pemerintah sama ada daripada Umno mahupun PAS serta saya pernah menerima anugerah daripada Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM),” ujarnya.
Menyusuri kisah hidupnya, tokoh ilmuwan ini telah melanjutkan pelajaran di Universiti al-Azhar sehingga ke peringkat Doktor Falsafah (Ph.D) dalam fiqh al-Zakat pada tahun 1973.
Yusuf sangat terpengaruh dengan pemikiran Imam al-Ghazali, Ibn Taimiyyah dan Ibn Qayyim.
Dalam kebanyakan penulisannya, beliau sering mengambil pendapat tiga tokoh berkenaan
Beliau mempunyai sifat dan peribadi yang unggul serta telah memberi sumbangan yang besar dalam perkembangan syiar Islam dan juga pembangunan ummah.
Sehingga 2008, seramai 19 orang dari pelbagai latar belakang dan kerjaya dikurniakan anugerah tersebut.
Antaranya ialah Allahyarham Syeikh Muhammad Idris Al-Marbawi dan Dr. Wahbah Az-Zuhaili.

Dr Al-Qaradawi, 83, who is also director of Qatar University's Seerah and Sunnah Centre was aware of the needs and problems of Muslims in other countries, which led to his appointment as chairman of the European Council for Fatwa and Research and member of Oxford University's Islamic Studies Centre.
He studied at the Al-Azhar University and obtained a PhD in the field of fiqh al-Zakat from the Faculty of Usul al Deen in 1973.
Another recipient of the Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1431H award was Felda Group chairman Tan Sri Dr Mohamed Yusof Mohamed Noor.

Dr Mohamed Yusof, 68, was chosen for his contribution in improving the status of the Muslim community, especially through the field of education and politics.
Dr Mohamed Yusof, hailing from Besut, Terengganu is a Usuluddin graduate from Al-Azhar University, and also has a PhD in Philosophy from the Kaherah University of Egypt.
Dr Mohamed Yusof also contributes his expertise as a member of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim)'s board of directors, as Tabung Haji advisory council chairman and as chairman of the Malaysian Islamic Education Board.
He was previously a Deputy Minister and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and was once a lecturer and Dean at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's (UKM) Islamic Studies Faculty.
Both recipients received RM100,000, including a cash prize of RM10,000 from the Ubaidi Foundation, a plaque, a medal and a certificate presented by Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at the national-level Maal Hijrah celebrations at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here today.
In KEDAH, 77-year-old historian Datuk Wan Shamsuddin Mohd Yusof received his Tokoh Maal Hijrah award at the Dewan Seri Negeri, Wisma Darulaman.
As Kedah-branch Historical Society of Malaysia chairman, he has contributed in the field of education with many of his historical works used for reference.
The former educator from Taiping, Perak who was raised in Sik, Kedah has five children and published 'Sejarah Tanah Melayu' in 1966 and 1968, which was also used as a text book in schools in Brunei.
His works include the restoration and documentation of documents and manuscripts such as 'Hukum Kanun Dato' Kota Setar'; 'Geran-geran Tanah Kerajaan Kubang Pasu Darul Qiyam'; 'Panji-panji Perang Kepunyaan Dato' Pekerma Ali'; 'Dua Pucuk Surat Sultan Mohamad Jiwa II 1773'; and 'Surat-menyurat Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah'.
Wan Shamsuddin received RM10,000, accompanying prizes as well as a certificate presented by Tengku Bendahara of Kedah, Datuk Seri Tengku Anuar Sultan Badlisyah.
In MELAKA, Kolej Universiti Islam Melaka (KUIM) Vice-Chancellor Prof Emeritus Datuk Wira Dr Mohd Yusoff Hashim, 64, was awarded the Tokoh Maal Hijrah at the ar-Rashidin Mosque last night. Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob presented the award during a state-level celebration ceremony.
He was appointed Fellow of the Leiden University, Holland; and University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies, and has served as Professor at Universiti Malaya and obtained his Professor Emeritus from the university, in addition to producing various academic works, publications and articles.
JOHOR's Tokoh Maal Hijrah was awarded to Johor Islamic Religious Council adviser Datuk Nooh Gadot. The special Ibu Bapa Mithali awards were given to Saim Suradi and Saniah @ Amnah Ahmad from Batu, while Othman Abd Rahman and Norani A. Rahman from Muar also received the same award.
Meanwhile, mosques which had contributed to the spread of knowledge were also not forgotten. The Tan Sri Ainudin Wahid Mosque in Taman Universiti, Skudai was honoured as Johor's excellent mosque.
However, in KUALA TERNGGANU, the Tokoh Maal Hijrah award was not given to any individual, but an imam who was father to 16 children was selected as an exemplary family leader in a ceremony held at the Islamic Civilisation Park here last night.
Haji Abdul Razak Jusoh, 70, who is 'imam' of the Kampung Bukit Kandis Mosque, near Kuala Terengganu, who was a fishermen was selected for his success in raising 11 of his 16 children until they managed to further their studies at the university level.
Abdul Razak received RM5,000, a trophy and a certificate.
In SARAWAK, the love, guidance and teachings showered by 58-year-old farmer Chek Bujang, and his wife, Jariah Tahir, 58, helped their eight children successfully graduate from universities, allowing the couple to receive the Maal Hijrah award for the Excellent Family Category from the Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin.
The duo from Kampung Tanjong Apong, Daerah Asajaya, raised their four daughters and two sons, aged between 21 to 36, to be educated individuals with three of them holding masters degrees in education, while four more obtained bachelors' degrees in various studies, and another was a diploma holder in education.
Chek who was an Al-Quran and Fardu Ain teacher received RM3,000, a plaque, a certificate and souvenirs at the Dewan Suarah in Kuching today.
In SELANGOR, former Senator and politician, Hassan Shukri, 70, was chosen as recipient of Selangor's Tokoh Maal Hijrah award presented by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
