Berakhir era Notes dibawah IBM

On December 6, 2018, IBM and HCL Technologies announced a definitive agreement under which HCL will acquire select IBM collaboration, commerce, digital experience and security software products. The transaction closed on June 30, 2019.

Pada 6 Disember, 2018, IBM dan HCL Technologies mengumumkan perjanjian muktamad di mana HCL akan memperoleh kerjasama, perdagangan, pengalaman digital dan produk perisian keselamatan IBM. Transaksi ditutup pada 30 Jun, 2019.

Pembangunan  Notes bermula pada tahun 1984 oleh sebuah syarikat bernama Iris yang pada waktu itu Iris bekerja di bawah kontrak dengan Lotus Development Corporation dan akhirnya versi release 1.0  secara rasmi  dikeluarkan oleh sebuah syarikat bernama "Lotus Development Corporation" tahun 1989. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_Associates

Lotus Development Corporation ia ditubuhkan pada tahun 1982 bersama rakan kongsi Mitch Kapor dan Jonathan Sachs dengan sokongan dari Ben Rosen. Antara produk lain Lotus  yang terkenal pada waktu ialah perisian Lotus 1-2-3 (spreadsheet software) yang dikeluarkan pada  January 26, 1983.

Pada tahun 1995  IBM membeli Lotus Corporation pada harga US$ 3.5 bilion, terutamanya untuk memperoleh Lotus Notes dan untuk mewujudkan kehadiran dalam segmen pengkomputeran pelanggan yang semakin penting, bagi mengantikan produk host-based  seperti IBM OfficeVision yang telah usang kemudia ia dikenali sebagai bahagian Pembangunan Lotus di IBM (Lotus Development division of IBM).


Pada tahun 2015 ia menjadi sebahagian daripada IBM Software and Systems Group di bawah nama "IBM Collaboration Solutions".

Lotus Notes merujuk kepada Notes client, yang dipasang pada komputer peribadi pengguna, dan digunakan untuk mengakses kedua-dua fail mail dan aplikasi Notes. Domino adalah komponen server bagi Notes/Domino team, dan ia berjalan pada pelbagai sistem operasi (operating systems)

Sebenar Lotus Notes ni bukan sahaja untuk email ia juga digunakan untuk kalendar, (personal information managers) PIM, pemesejan segera, Web browsing, serta .pelbagai  applikasi Lotus Notes yang lain yang dibangunkan  oleh  team lotus notes dipejabat.

Aplikasi Notes boleh dibina untuk kedua-dua Notes client dan untuk Web browsers. ada juga replikasi membolehkan kita mecapainya dalam talian(online ) dan di luar talian  (offline).

Pada 6 Disember, 2018, IBM mengumumkan bahawa ia telah menjual beberapa produk perisian kepada HCL Technologies untuk $ 1.8bn, termasuk IBM Notes, Domino, Commerce, Portal, Connections, BigFix, Unica and AppScan.

Transaksi ditutup pada 30 Jun, 2019.

Saya mula menggunakan IBM Notes rasanya versi atau  release 5.0 bagi email rasmi pejabat  pada tahun 2000 dan sehingga  IBM Notes versi atau  release 9 pada 2019  dan ini mungkin  tahun terakhir kami menggunakan  Notes kerana  pengurusan  ICT kami telah meuar-uarkan pertukan email rasmi  pejabat ke perkhidmatan email lain.

IBM Connections (Unleash Social Collaboration and Drive Business Productivity)

Pada17 Julai 2012 yang lalu saya  telah ke sesi IBM Connections POT (Unleash Social Collaboration and Drive Business Productivity) di Plaza IBM dan ianya amat berguna dimana profile serta file sharing features ada disertakan pada versi Domino & Notes 8.5.3.

Bersama saya turut serta En Mohd Izwan Salim , pegawai EKMS (Enterprise Knowledge Mangement System) kami serta seorang pelajar praktikal KM dari UNISEL, Cik Munirah

Saya dapati ianya memang bagus jika dapat menggunakan Lotus Connections tersebut kerana kami dari PTAR telah menghadiri sesi  Unleash Social Collaboration and Drive Business Productivity pada 17 July 2012  lalu .


Kami boleh rasakan ia boleh menggantikan platform EKMS kami yang mengunakan teknologi lama, seawal 2004 (facado) rasanya dah samapai masa untuk dinaiktaraf - segala ciri-ciri dalam EKMS itu ada dalam IBM Lotus Connections terutama bagi document managemet dan lain-lain

Selain dari itu kami ada juga explore https://www.yammer.com/ ( telah dibeli oleh Microsoft) tetapi ciri-cirnya masih kurang  jika dibandingkan dengan  IBM Lotus Connections  kecuali jika disertakan dengan Sharepoint portal  http://sharepoint.microsoft.com

A Culture of Think

In a sales meeting at NCR, an angry Thomas Watson Sr. barked at his staff “what you men have to do is THINK!” With that, he wrote THINK on a flip board and told an assistant to put the word on plaques and give them out. When Watson joined the nascent C-T-R in 1914, he brought the THINK slogan with him. By the1920s, C-T-R became IBM, THINK signs appeared in many locations and the slogan became synonymous with the company as it attracted the media spotlight. With THINK as the mantra, Watson created a culture of independent thinkers and impassioned sellers, empowering a large, dispersed workforce.
